FAQ

  • Can you buy tickets at the door?
For most shows, we offer tickets both online and at the door. However, tickets at the door are always a couple of dollars more expensive and are not guaranteed to be available. Buying online is more convenient for our student marketing team, so we’ll always encourage pre-booking your seats to our shows! Additionally, most of our shows sell out the day of, so we would suggest buying your tickets a few days in advance. If you absolutely must buy at the door, make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before the show begins for your best shot at getting tickets.
  • What is your doors policy?
We open doors 15-20 minutes before the show begins. For all of our shows, but especially our one-night-only showcases in the black box, we reserve the right to sell your ticket to someone on the waitlist if you don’t arrive by the time the show starts, so make sure to be punctual.
  • I bought my ticket online. What should I bring with me to the show?
A: Make sure to have your receipt ready to be scanned, which you should receive through an email after purchasing. A member of our student marketing team will confirm your ticket and let you in. We sell concessions at all of our shows, so bring cash to buy snacks during intermission as well!
  • Q: Can I audition for a mainstage production without being enrolled in a Drama class?
Many of our mainstage productions are restricted to students in the Advanced and Honors Acting class, as we use class time for rehearsal. While we highly encourage students interested in acting to join the course, our annual student-run production of MVSNL invites students campuswide to participate without having to be enrolled in the drama department. This year we also have our spring play, Chemical Imbalance: A Jekyll and Hyde Play, open to the school for auditions. Check the website and instagram in December for more information about how to audition!
  • What is the difference between the Advanced and Honors levels?
Students in Advanced are typically either fresh out of Beginning Drama or opt out of the extra responsibility that comes with the Honors Drama role. Honors students, on top of completing normal assignments in their Acting or Tech classes, do yearlong honors projects that add something to the department. Examples of these projects are leading a tech department, creating a catalog for our props and set pieces, or serving as president of the Playwriting club. Most of our Honors students are in their third or fourth year of drama and have completed both Beginning and a year of Advanced.
  • What do you do in Beginning Drama?
Beginning Drama teaches foundation-level theatre skills while going over different eras of theatre, covering both acting and tech. While Beginning Drama doesn’t participate in mainstage productions, they end the year with a class one-act production, Students on Stage.
  • Should I take Acting or Tech?
If you enjoy being onstage, as well as learning to direct and write, Acting is the class for you! If you’re more interested in the technical work behind mainstage productions and design, Tech would be the better choice. However, for MVSNL, both classes get to be directors.
  • Does taking drama count for my A-G required art credit?
    Yes!
  • Drama sounds fun, but I’m afraid of public speaking and being on stage. Should I take the class?
Definitely! In Beginning Drama we start slowly with fun activities and games. We ease into performances a little bit at a time and students learn strategies for memorizing lines, effective public speaking, and how to get over nerves. Drama class will actually help you confront your fear of public speaking, so it’ll be much easier to give presentations and speak during discussions in your other classes. If you know for sure that you have absolutely zero interest in being on stage, you can talk to Ms. Gould about how to skip Beginning and apply directly to Advanced Stagecraft (a.k.a. tech) to do all the fun behind-the-scenes work.
